Geraldine H. "Gerri"  Cornell (Oberg)
Geraldine “Gerri” Cornell, 73, of Hayes, Virginia passed away peacefully with family by her side, June 30, 2014 at the Hospice House of Williamsburg, VA. Gerri was a native of Connecticut and retired from a long career at Pitney Bowes. She was a member of Newtown United Methodist Church, Sandy Hook, Connecticut and was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. Gerri was a loving mother to her family, enjoyed cooking and entertaining, was an avid gardener and had a love for all things outdoors. She also was a very creative artist who loved to draw cartoons and paint.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kent Brian Cornell and her parents.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca Slattery & husband William of Gloucester, VA Tracy Kean & husband Brian of Newtown and David Cornell & wife JoAnne of Bethel; grandchildren, Ryan Blais, Matthew DoVale, Cortney DoVale, Katelyn Kean and Haley Kean; great grandchildren, Ethan Baur and Niccolo Messina; sister, Jeanne Granniss; brother, Richard Oberg; a host of nieces and nephews; and her canine companions, Cricket and K.C.
Funeral services officiated by Reverend Mel Kawakami will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Churchill Rd, Sandy Hook, with interment following in Zoar Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 10, 2014 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St. Newtown, CT.
Memorial contributions in memory of our mother may be made to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
