Phyllis Ann "Pat"  Wrinn (Murphy)
Phyllis A “Pat” (Murphy) Wrinn of Newtown passed away peacefully Monday, August 11, 2014. She was born in Meriden April 6, 1931, the daughter of the late Marion and Joseph Murphy. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Wrinn, Sr. (D2006) and son, Charles Wrinn, Jr. (D1990). Surviving Mrs. Wrinn are her children Dr. Michael and Vivian (Huang) Wrinn of Portland, OR, Joseph and Theresa (Madsen) Wrinn of Woodbury, CT, Ann (Wrinn) and Steven Gordon of Southampton, NY, Jonathan and Nancy (Corcoran) Wrinn of Wichita, KS, Robert and LeeAnn (Inderbitzen) Wrinn of Thousand Oaks, CA, Philip and Ann (Brennan) Wrinn of Cherry Hill, NJ, 19 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Muriel Mehr, brothers Bill and Jim Murphy, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wrinn was a retired Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's Degree from Western Connecticut State University (1978). She dedicated her career to Oncology Nursing, and in 1982 trained at McGill University’s Royal Victoria Hospital to become one of the earliest health care professionals certified in Hospice Care, a pioneering approach to caring for terminally ill patients and their families. Her nursing career included positions at Danbury Hospital, Ashlar of Newtown, and the Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut. Later she spent countless hours volunteering for the VNA and the Thrift shop in Newtown.In her personal life, she had a passion for the arts. She was an avid and serious classical pianist, and accomplished painter. Her influence echoes through the generations she raised; she has loved, been loved, and will be dearly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury this Saturday, August 16 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the St. Rose Cemetery in Sandy Hook. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, Friday August 15 from 5-8 p.m.
