Obituary for Claire Hammond Holzner

Claire Marie Holzner, (nee Hammond), 80, a longtime resident of Newtown passed away peacefully on Sunday October 19, 2014 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was the loving wife of Louis Holzner. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary with all their children. Claire was the devoted mother of Christopher L. Holzner (Lynn), Janice C. Fields (Jim), and Mark W. Holzner. She was the cherished grandmother of Amy King (Brian), William Fields (Diane), Matthew Holzner, Emily Fields, Clint Holzner and Livia Holzner; great-grandmother of Wyatt King; and beloved sister of Kenneth W. (Louise) Hammond.

Claire and Lou were avid travelers and especially enjoyed England and Germany. Claire was a summer resident of Chatham, MA her entire life. She loved spending time at the family home (“Sea Heaven”) on Cape Cod, enjoying exciting card games with the grandchildren, antiquing, walking on the beach, and making the family clam chowder recipe. Claire was also longtime member of the Newtown Women’s Club.

Friends and Relatives may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown on Wednesday October 22nd, from 5:00-8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown at 11:00 am on Thursday October 23rd. Interment will be private in Chatham, MA at a later date.
