Obituary for Patricia Ann " Patty" Philipp (Murphy)

Patricia Philipp, 63, a longtime resident of Newtown, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Danbury Hospital. Born in Danbury, Patty graduated from Immaculate High School with the class of 1969 and St Vincent's School of Nursing with the class of 1972. Later in life, she went back to school and completed her Bachelor’s degree in nursing at Sacred Heart University. As a school nurse in Newtown, Patty was once voted Connecticut's school nurse of the year. She was dedicated to her job and loved every minute of the time she spent with all of the students that have come into her office over the years. She loved to vacation with her family at Disney World, a favorite spot of both hers and her beloved Mark. She loved Broadway musicals, and took many bus trips in NYC to see the latest in stage entertainment. Patty loved St Rose Church, especially the annual Christmas Boutique she helped plan every year. She was extremely generous and giving in nature, and she will be sorely missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Patricia was predeceased by her beloved husband Mark Philipp, father John Murphy, Mother & Father in-law Edward & Elizabeth Philipp, Brother In-Law Pat McGrath and her favorite Beatle George Harrison.
She is Survived by her Mother, Rita (McIlrath) Murphy; her children Amy Philipp-Zavatsky, Colin Philipp and Carrie Philipp; son in-law Michael Zavatsky and her beloved grandchildren, Taylor, Mark, Shea, Tighe and Sam. Also survived by her sister Karen Lilly & brother Jackie Murphy and her sister in-law Monica Neligon & Brother In-law David Philipp. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home 58 Main St in Newtown, Sunday November 2, 2014 from 2pm to 5pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church 46 Church Hill Rd., Newtown, Monday November 3, 2014 at 11am. Interment will follow in Newtown Village Cemetery.
