Obituary for Daniel Bruce Monroe (Dan)

Daniel Bruce Monroe, 68, of Newtown, passed peacefully at home after his battle with lung cancer on February 21 surrounded by his family. Dan was born on March 1, 1946, in Sharon, CT, the son of the late Edward John Monroe, and Dorothy Monroe Walker who resides in Woodbury. Dan graduated from Joel Barlow High School and served in the National Guard, Company “A” 242dEngrBn.
Dan was a realtor at William Raveis Real Estate, The Durkin Group until he retired several years ago. Once retired, Dan loved working outside in his yard. Dan enjoyed planting Japanese maple saplings and admiring all his landscape plantings. He was there for friends and family when in need. Dan loved his family, his children, nieces and nephews, all his friends-especially at VFW, adored his dogs, the Patriots, and CSI.
Dan is survived by his wife, Ellen Monroe, as well as his children Michael Monroe, Suzanne Monroe, Daniel Sean Monroe, James Monroe, Daniel Monroe and Gigi Monroe Allen. In addition, Dan is survived by his brothers Barry Monroe and Edward Monroe, and sisters Lynne Mikulka and Gail Ambadjes. Dan was predeceased by his oldest brother, Brian Monroe.
A private family service has been held. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 2pm to 5pm. At Dan’s request, there will be no memorial service.
