Obituary for Eugene "Gene" Garriepy

Eugene "Gene"  Garriepy
Eugene Garriepy, age 82 of Sandy Hook, beloved husband of 53 years to Margaret Christine (Panciera) Garriepy passed away peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Friday, April 3rd.
Gene was born on November 19, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. He was raised in New York spending many years there before moving to Sandy Hook. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Air Force as an Aircraft Engine Specialist for the 31st Air Transport Squadron, and later as a crew chief aboard a C-124 Globemaster.
He worked for Olin Chemicals as a Marketing Specialist for over 25 years. He was an avid bowler, wood-worker, and photographer, and served for a time on the Newtown Legislative Council. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is the beloved father of Deborah Granquist and her husband Michael, Laura Porcelli and her husband Douglas, and his grandchildren Gregory and Jason. He leaves behind many friends, colleagues, and relatives. His kind heart, quick wit, intelligence, and great sense of humor will be sorely missed.
Friends may call at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown Tuesday April 7 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday April 8 at 12:00noon in Saint Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.
