M. Georgina “Georgy” Fitchett, 92, died Veterans Day, November 11. A mainstay of Sandy Hook, she was born in a Leap Year, February 24, 1924.

Ms Fitchett had a smile for everyone and greatly enjoyed her years of teaching in the Newtown School System, as well as being a Girl Scout leader and a Red Cross swimming instructor.

She leaves a family that includes two grown children; and her sisters Wilhelmina Van Hemert of Maryland, Diane Taylor of Connecticut, and Lee Kallos of Delaware.

In lieu of a service, Georgy asked that all who knew her look after one another and treat the earth and all living things with honor, and respect, and kindness.

Interment will be private, at Umpawaug Cemetery in Redding.
