Condolence From: Jonathan Walker
Condolence: We were very sad to learn of Virginia's passing. As a former chair of the Art & Design Department at Sacred Heart University I have been a beneficiary of her great work and I hope she was proud of our growth and recognized that her department had become the best and most respected in the region. The department is a lasting tribute and living memory of Virginia. Jon Walker Associate Professor Former Chair Art & Design Department Sacred Heart University Fairfield, CT

Condolence From: Edward J. Bordeau
Condolence: My sincere condolences to Virginia's family. For so many years, almost 31, I had the pleasant opportunity to work with Virginia as a fellow faculty member and chairperson. Then, when the departments of art, music, history, political science, philosophy and religious studies were housed in an academic unit called "Humanistic Studies," at first chaired by Leland Roberts and later by myself, I observed Virginia at work in more practical ways; she was an ardent advocate for her department, its needs, and the welfare of her students and faculty. She very competently oversaw the advancement of the new skills and hardware that her department needed as the art world went digital. Sometimes it was quite a struggle for her to get the administration to allocate the funds necessary for this transformation, but she campaigned hard and won. She was a very effective chairperson and an exceedingly talented artist. She loved the art of Picasso, among many other modern artists. SHU was fortunate to have Virginia on its faculty and as the chairperson of the Art Department from nearly its founding in 1964 to the year of her retirement.
