Obituary for Frank John Cordomeyer

Frank John Cordomeyer
Frank Cordomeyer, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24 at Saint John Paul II Center in Danbury, Ct. He was proud of his Brooklyn roots and lived in Franklin Square, NY for 62 years when he moved to Newtown, CT where he lived with his beloved grandson Peter and his family. A veteran of World War II, Frank proudly served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate Third Class on the USS Sangamon. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a machinist for Esselte until his retirement in 1989. He joined the VFW in 1946 in Brooklyn and later became a member of the Frank P. Curry Post 2718 in Franklin Square. Frank worked his way through the chairs and became Commander from 1973 – 1975, a position in which he took great pride. In 2016, Frank was awarded his 70 year pin at a ceremony in Franklin Square. Frank never forgot about his fellow veterans and was an active volunteer at the Northport Veterans Hospital for many years. He was the recipient of many awards and medals, including the Navy Combat Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. Frank loved his John Wayne movies, NY sports and could dance a mean Lindy. He enjoyed traveling with his daughter and son-in-law and was extremely moved and grateful for a trip to Washington, DC where he visited the WWII memorial and was greeted by strangers who thanked him for his service. His whistling and pocket-change jingling will be missed by us all. He will fondly be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife, and an infant daughter. He will be sadly missed by his devoted daughters and their spouses, his five grandchildren and his four great-grandchildren, of whom he was so proud. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 27 at 10:30am at St. Rose of Lima in Newtown. Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 PM and 6 – 8PM in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St, Newtown, Ct..Interment will follow at the State Veteran's Cemetery, in Middletown, CT In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital or the charity of one’s choice
