Obituary for Bernard Francis "Bernie" Curran

Bernard Francis "Bernie" Curran
Bernard Francis Curran (Bernie) of Newtown, CT (previously Dallas, TX and Chappaqua, NY), passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 with a large contingent of family by his side, after a 5 year battle with lymphoma. To be clear, the cancer did not define him. Rather, it was the powerful mark he left on all who knew him as husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, mentor, coach, manager, volunteer, and all around great role model. His strong faith and love of family was paramount in everything he did, and those that had the good fortune of knowing him will remember him for his caring, thoughtful and considerate nature.
Bernie was born August 1, 1929 in West Orange, NJ, eldest son of the late Bernard H and Jean (Monaghan) Curran. He is preceded by his sister, Sr. Mary Bernard, O.P.; son Thomas Martin Curran; daughter Mary Theresa Curran; first wife Mary Margaret (Peggy) King Curran and step daughter, Madelyn Korth Blind.
He is survived by his brother, Honorable Robert W. Curran (Nancy), his wife Mary Korth Curran and their combined 15 children and step children; Jim Curran (Margaret), Bill Curran (Noni), Ed Curran (Susan), Kathy Collins (Patrick), Dave Curran (Judy), John Curran (Lori), Mike Curran (Greg Goss), Patrick Curran (Kelly), Katherine Dehais (Eric), Ellen Skrelja (Frank), James Korth, Victoria Korth (Alex Ceres), Jerome Korth, Jr., Marian Mullaney (Richard) and William Korth (Caroline); 37 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and countless nieces & nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Rd, Newtown, CT. Following the mass all are invited to a reception in Holy Innocents Hall on the opposite end of the parking lot from the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, www.parentprojectmd.org/komd, to help support Bernie’s great grandson, Conner Curran and his fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
