Obituary for Shirley North Pitcher

Shirley North Pitcher, 89, previously of Southbury and Sandy Hook left this world on May 30, 2017 surrounded by her family to be with the Lord. Born on September 7, 1927 in Torrington, Shirley was the daughter of Madeline and Roy North. She was the devoted wife of 52 years to the late James Ronald Pitcher. They raised their family in Sandy Hook, and spent many happy years living in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, before rejoining their children and grandchildren back in CT. Shirley had many passions, including all aspects of gardening, cooking and baking for her family. She and Jim spent much time at their cabin in Vermont, summers on Cape Cod and the coast of Maine. The center of her world was her faith and family. She will be greatly missed by her children, Sherry Wheeler and her husband, Tad, of Sherman; Mary Leibold and her husband, John, of Newtown; and Michael Pitcher and his wife, Beth, of New Milford, and her seven grandchildren, Sarah Lopes and Amy Wheeler; Christopher and Kevin Leibold; and Michelle, Nicholas, and Zachary Pitcher. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Smith. Calling hours will be on Friday, June 2, from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 3, at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.
