Kurtis Michael Mayer Liska, 27, of New Fairfield born February 18, 1990 died of subsequent injuries following a highway accident during the early morning hours of June 25, 2017. Kurtis was the son of Jeffery D. Liska of South Thomaston, ME and Lori Fischer Liska of Spring Hill, FL. In addition to his parents, Kurtis is survived by his grandmother, Ruth M. Liska of South Thomaston, ME, his uncle and aunt Richard and Donna Liska of Newtown, his cousins, Joshua and his wife Sally, of Sandy Hook, Jakob and his wife Nikki of Newtown, and Sarah Locke Liska of Rutland, VT, and three "nephews" Colton, Hudson and Ryker Liska. Kurtis was predeceased by his beloved grandfather, Richard M. Liska, Sr. of South Thomaston, ME. Kurtis is survived on his maternal side by aunts and uncles Maureen Bonace of Lake Forest, CA, Anna Allin of Murfeesburo, TN, Joe Polockow of Kinsley, KS, Cathy Hersh of Kinsley, KS, Shaun Lane of Norco, LA, Janeen Rosado of La Place, LA, Veronica Everett of Norco, LA, and Adam Roberts of Cocoa, FL and 22 maternal cousins Megan, Matt, Brandon, Kellie, Terah, Jeran, Amanda, Alyssa, David, Paige, Brooke, Madison, Ethan, Gabrielle, Kamryn, Hayden and Jace. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Virginia Roberts of Norco, LA and grandfather, Joseph Fischer of Warrens, GA. Kurtis grew up in Sandy Hook, CT where he attended Sandy Hook Elementary School before graduating from Newtown High School in 2008. He was employed by Costco Stores in Brookfield upon graduating high school. At the age of 6 years old Kurtis started playing Little League and Cal Ripken baseball and was regularly selected to the All-Star teams. At 13, he joined the Babe Ruth League and played a few years with them, then played two years of AAU baseball with a good friend and coach, Bob Lapple. Because of his love of the game, he played with several adult leagues, one being the Newtown Naturals which was part of the Housatonic Valley Wood Bat League. Kurtis had an adventurous spirit, robust love of life, and began traveling in his teens. Flying to California to visit his aunts, Maureen and Anna and his cousins for the summer. While in California he had the opportunity to attend Anaheim Angels ball games and to go camping in the California desert. Among his many interests was attending the Daytona 500 races for many years with one of his best friends, Jeremy Yapp and his family. Special times with his father were trips to Arizona to play golf. Kurtis spent many childhood summers fishing with his family on Lower Beverly Lake in Delta, Ontario Canada. As an adult Kurtis attended many country music concerts with his friends. Kurtis was larger than life, a compassionate, kind and giving person. His laughter will live in our hearts forever. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Calling hours will take place at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown on Thursday, June 29th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will take place Friday, June 30th at Newtown Hook & Ladder, Church Hill Rd., Newtown from 12 noon to 2:00 pm.
