Obituary for Anthony Guariglia Jr.

Anthony Guariglia Jr., 80, of Brookfield, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 2, 2019. Mr. Guariglia was born in the Bronx, NY, July 21, 1938, to Anthony and Rose Guariglia. Tony was a resident of Brookfield for over 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan (Gribben) Guariglia. He was the beloved father of Michael Guariglia (Janelle), Paul Guariglia (Quinn), Lisa Guariglia, Joseph Guariglia (Colette), Laura Smith (Michael), Anthony Guariglia (Lara) and Jeannine Flugrad (Russ), along with being the beloved grandfather of 21 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his cousin, Lucille Boyd (Kevin). He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Marguerite and Carole.
His greatest passion was spending time with his family and friends, along with traveling the world. He was an avid New York Giants fan, but his greatest sports memories were the times spent coaching soccer for his children over the years, as well as children of all ages in the Brookfield Soccer Club. Tony loved seeing smiles on people’s faces, making them laugh and genuinely helping anyone in whatever way he could. He loved his family unconditionally and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His family would like to thank from the bottom of their hearts, the caring and professional staffs of Danbury Hospital 11 East and the Praxair Cancer Center for their dedicated and loving care.
Calling hours will be Monday, January 7, from 4 to 7 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. A Mass will be held in celebration of his life on Tuesday, January 8, at 10:00 am, at St. Joseph’s Church, 163 Whisconier Road, Brookfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends consider making a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
