Obituary for Charlotte Hazel Kalley (Milen)

Charlotte Kalley, 89, a longtime Newtown resident died peacefully June 30. She was born May 16, 1928 daughter of Adolph and Elfrieda Milen in Far Rockaway, NY where she lived until her marriage September 18, 1949 to James Kalley. They lived on Long Island and moved to Newtown in 1967.
Charlotte served as President of the Welcome Wagon and later as President of the Women’s Club in Newtown.
She was a long-time member of the Newtown Congregational Church and was approaching her 50th anniversary as a member. At the church, she was part of the Women’s group and an active member of the choir.
Music played a large roll in her life, Charlotte performed with the Newtown Choral Society and Danbury Concert Chorus. With the Concert Chorus, she was honored to perform at the July 4th Bicentennial celebration in Philadelphia and on a concert tour in Europe.
As much as possible, summers where spent on Cape Cod, where she and Jim owned a second home for thirty-five years. Time on the beach was her passion.
Charlotte is survived by her two sons, Craig Kalley of Cheshire and Glen Kalley of Louisville, KY; a grandson, Zachary Kalley; her brother Alfred Milen of Queensbury, NY and family in Germany.
Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown Wednesday. July 5 from 4:00pm-7:00pm. A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
