Obituary

Obituary for Barbara Joan Maltz

Barbara Joan Gianetto-Maltz age 72, of the New York metro area, a beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family after a 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Barbara was born in Staten Island, NY on February 25, 1948. Barbara is survived by her three loving children Jeff Maltz and wife Mindy of Newtown CT, Jason Maltz and wife Leah of West Harrison NY and Michele Maltz-Matyschsyk and husband Gerry of South Windsor CT, as well as her six grandchildren, Rachel, Ava, Olivia, Peyton, Taylor and Bryce. Barbara dedicated her life to God, family, teaching, and oil painting. Barbara attended Fashion Institute of Technology and graduated in 1968 with an associates degree in design. After graduation Barbara found her true calling in teaching. She graduated from Wagner College in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in education. From there she went on to earn two Master’s degrees. She leaves behind an amazing 49-year career as a selfless educator to special education children in the New York area. For the past 14 years Barbara has taught at Westchester Hills School 29, in Yonkers, NY. Barbara believed that all children deserved to be educated no matter how they learn. She fought for every one of her students’ education and had a special way of getting through to them.
In her spare time, Barbara was also an amazing impressionistic oil painter. Her artwork is displayed at her children's households as well as at the Loft artists association where she was a long-time member. Barbara donated one of her paintings to School 29, where it is currently being displayed for the children to love and enjoy. Barbara loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also wanted the world to know that everything great she ever did in her life was through the grace of our Lord and Savior.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a date to be determined. Barbara will be laid to rest in a private ceremony on Saturday March 28, 2020.

In Lieu of Flowers contributions to School 29’s Special Education program would be greatly appreciated.
