Obituary for Barbara Millard
Barbara L. (Grant) Millard, age 77 of Newtown, passed away at home on Monday, October 28, 2019. Barbara was born on April 11, 1942, in New York City to the late Frank and Marjorie (Fenty) Grant. She was predeceased by her husband, William W. Millard, Jr., and brother, Robert Grant.
Barbara grew up in Putnam Lake, New York. She and Bill married September 11, 1971 and raised their son in Bethel, Connecticut where they lived for 29 years before moving to Newtown with their son in 2003. Barbara worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses before a long career with the Bethel Board of Education.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her love of family was evident to anyone who met her. The spark in her eyes when she spoke of her son, Bill, and granddaughter, Shayna, was obvious. Barbara enjoyed precious time with family, including years helping care for Shayna. She also enjoyed spending time at the Newtown Senior Center on a regular basis and attending Shayna’s sporting events. She was always ready for a craft or game and was certain to bring a joke. Throughout her life she overcame many obstacles. She always kept her head up high and took each day one at a time.
Barbara is survived by her loving son, William W. Millard III, and granddaughter, Shayna Millard of Newtown. Barbara’s passing was sudden and she will be missed tremendously by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, those desiring to make a memorial donation may send a contribution to their favorite charity. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 10th, from 1-4pm at Honan Funeral Home 58 Main St. Newtown CT.
