Obituary for Coletta Viva "Colette" Gibbons (Zaccara)

Colette Gibbons (Zaccara) died on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, surrounded and held by her family. She was 78 years old. Colette was born in White Plains, NY, beloved daughter of Joseph H. and Mary (Marone) Zaccara. She married the love of her life, Phillip J. Gibbons, in 1965, and they built a life together in Stratford and later in Newtown and Brookfield. Colette never missed her children’s games, cheering for St. Rose, Bunnell High School, and Immaculate High School. Colette enjoyed meeting friends with Phil in Stratford and cruises with Hank and Carol Zaccara. She was a passionate fan of University of Alabama football (Roll Tide!) and Rob Gronkowski (Gronk) – no matter where he played! She loved her friend Joan King, thought of Susan, Nancy, and Rich as her children, and friends Mary Holton, Camille LaBonte, Bonnie Gibbons, and Betty Jane Morgan.
Colette was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Anthony (Tony) Zaccara, Henry (Hank) Zaccara, sister-in-law, Carol Zaccara, nephew Michael Zaccara, and sister Victoria (Vicky) Iazzetta. Colette is survived by her husband of 56 years, Phillip J. Gibbons of Woodbury, CT, her daughter Kristine E. Foss and son-in-law Stephen P. Foss, of Bradford, NH, son Patrick J. Gibbons, and daughter-in-law Tracy Gibbons, of Suffield, CT, son Timothy R. Gibbons and daughter-in-law Caley Gibbons, of Sandy Hook, CT, and son Sean J. Gibbons and daughter-in-law Carey Gibbons, of Hamburg, NY. She is survived by her grandchildren Ian C. Foss, Paige M. Oja, and husband Mikael Oja, Catey Harmon and husband Chase Harmon, Caley Gibbons, Cassey Gibbons, Dakota Gibbons, Becca Gibbons, Makena Gibbons, great-grandson Chase Harmon Jr. and sister-in-law Shirley Zaccara and many nieces, nephews and grands.
Colette’s family would like to thank the incredible staff at Newtown Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care and love. A private memorial service is planned for later this month.
