Obituary for David Alan McCauley

David McCauley, age 93, of Newtown, the beloved husband of Ingrid Otten McCauley, entered into rest peacefully on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at Bethel Health Care Center, Bethel Connecticut. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on May 4, 1929, the oldest of six children to the late Milton and Margaret Collie McCauley. David graduated from Stratford High School in 1947 and enrolled in the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation. After a three-year enlistment in the Marines, David returned to Connecticut and subsequently graduated from Danbury Teachers College (now Western Connecticut State University) and began his 34-year career as a high school teacher, primarily at Masuk High School in Monroe Connecticut. David spent most of his adult life in and around Newtown, Connecticut. He and Ingrid loved to travel, and they ventured throughout the world. They were regular visitors to St John Island in the U.S. Virgin Islands for over 30 years. David was an equestrian enthusiast who owned horses and was a long-time volunteer and trail master for the Newtown Bridle Lands Association and an Honorary Member of the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard. David and his horse, Sage, were frequent participants in Newtown’s annual Labor Day parade.
He will be sadly missed by his friends and family. David's loving family includes wife Ingrid, his brother Milton William McCauley, Jr., his sister Martha McCauley Anderson and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother James Andrew McCauley and his sisters Susan McCauley Unwin and Betsy McCauley Ross.
A Funeral Service in Celebration of David's Life will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 10:00 am at Elmwood Cemetery, Old Lantern Drive, Bethel. In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory may be made to St. James’ Episcopal Church, 25 West Street, Danbury, CT 06810 or to a charity of your choice. Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown is in charge of arrangements.
