Obituary for Dennis Normile Scott
Dr. Dennis Normile Scott, 83, passed away peacefully at his Newtown home on Sunday, October 30th, 2022. In 2018, Dennis was pre-deceased by his wife of more than 30 years, Janice. Dennis is survived by brothers Jim (Mary) and Denny Lee (Judy), step-son, Todd and daughter in law, Danielle, along with grandchildren Emma, Hunter, Paige, and Jonah.
Dennis was born on July 21st, 1939 in Oneonta, New York. Along with three brothers; Jim, Mike, and Denny Lee, he was raised in Norwich, New York, where he graduated from Norwich High School in 1957. After earning his Doctoral degree in Education from the University of Kansas, Dennis joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1961-1967.
In 1982 while living in New Jersey, Dennis met Janice Suhar and began working in the State of Connecticut Vo-Tech School system as Assistant Director. In 1986 the couple married and later moved to Sandy Hook, CT along with their son, Todd Suhar. From 1987 until 2008 Dennis held several Assistant Director positions with Connecticut Tech schools: Bullard Havens, Oliver Wolcott, Kaynor, and Abbott Tech.
In retirement, Dennis was active in Christ The King Lutheran Church. He enjoyed a love for fitness, dogs, and spending time with family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dennis’ memory can be made to Christ The King Lutheran Church, 85 Mount Pleasant Road, Newtown, CT 06470.
Family and Friends may call at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown on Friday, November 4th from 10am-11am. A short service will immediately follow and interment will take place thereafter in Newtown Village Cemetery.
