Condolence From: Dave Treadwell
Condolence: Sincerest condolences to the family of Fred Pendergast Sr. Fred was the emcee of the coffee call hour at the Newtown General Store - always up beat - he made our day! As a retired Vice Pres. of Newtown Savings Bank, I can attest to the great service Fred and his "team" provided to the bank, especially when it snowed. I wish to give him a final salute for the nice person he was. Dave Treadwell, Retired VP - NSB

Condolence: Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. We first got to know Fred through his sister Eileen, who was our next door neighbor and friend when we lived in VA. We moved to Newtown and Fred was our refuse collection person for many years. He was a jovial person who was larger than life. All good thoughts of Fred.

Condolence: Fred was a gentle soul. Honest as the day is long, he drove my kids to school and picked up my garbage. A funny story to describe his wit and humor, he appeared at my front door one early afternoon. I answered the door and greeted Fred and asked how could I help him. I noticed that he had his camera in hand and he asked if he could take a picture of my firewood pile. I always had about 8 to 10 cords of seasoned, stacked firewood on hand as I heated my house almost exclusively with wood. Of course I said yes, help yourself, but I have to ask why? He looked at me with a grin and said " that's the neatest wood pile I've ever seen, it would be a shame to use it. You ought to shellac it!" I laughed hysterically as he ambled over to the pile, snapping pictures. True to form, Fred sent me copies of the photos he took and it occurred to me that he was wright. That was one darn neat wood pile!! Newtown has lost a gem...'till we meet again my friend.
