Obituary for Fredric Martin "Fred" DiVincenzo

Fredric M. DiVincenzo, age 50 of Redding died suddenly on January 15, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Deanna (Sawitsky) DiVincenzo. Fred was born in Cieti, Italy on November 19, 1963 and arrived in the U.S. at the age of 5. In addition to his wife of 19 years, he is survived by his sons, Michael (age 17), Andrew (age 14), and Brendan (age 12); his sister Roberta and her husband Jason; his brother-in-law Chris and his wife Bridget; his brother-in-law Mark and his wife Colleen; his brother-in-law Jonathan and his wife Sarah; his sister-in-law Janice and her husband Douglas. Mary and Bob Sawitsky, his mother–in-law and father-in-law will miss him dearly, as they loved him like a “son”. He was predeceased by his parents, Otto and MaryAnne Klumpp. Fred was an avid Yankee fan and a baseball coach for an endless number of teams in Redding and Bethel. He also coached the Fairfield Prep Freshman Baseball Team. His presence at every game was a beacon of light to all the boys, parents and coaches. Fred was fair, disciplined, loved his sport and handed down to “all his boys”. In earlier years, he was a member of an adult softball team in Westchester County. Fred was a self- employed mortgage broker in Mamaroneck, NY and in his second career he was a Real Estate Investor in Bridgeport. He will be remembered for his continued generosity to family and friends, sharing his summer homes in Nantucket and Lake Sunapee. Above all he was an extraordinary Dad to his three boys, whose loss will be profound. Holidays at Fred and Deanna’s home brought attention to Redding neighbors and all who shared their love of Christmas lights, 4th of July fireworks and numerous pool parties. At St. Mary’s School you could always see Fred on the basketball court in many capacities where Andrew and Brendan played. To “know Fred” was to “love Fred”. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, 24 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel Monday January 20th at 11:00am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown Saturday (today) from 4:00 to 7:00pm and Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Redding-Easton, PO Box 333, Redding Ridge, CT 06876 or to St. Mary’s School, 24 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel, CT 06801.
