Obituary

Obituary for George Raymond Limbach Sr.

George R. Limbach Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 14, 2020 at his home in Newtown, Connecticut at the age of 100. George was born on May 8, 1920, in The Bronx, New York to John and Leah Limbach. At two years of age, George moved with his family to Fort Lee, New Jersey, where he enjoyed swimming and canoeing in the Hudson River and watching the George Washington Bridge being built. In 1942, he graduated from Columbia University, in New York City, with an engineering degree. After graduating college, George joined the Army Signal Corps, where he met his future wife, Irene. In 1944 he joined US Rubber Company (later Uniroyal), where he worked as a chemical engineer for the next 38 years. He married Irene Bochet in 1946 and raised two sons, George Jr. and Keith. Sadly, Irene Limbach passed away in 1963. George was a loving husband and father, who enjoyed camping and visiting the National Parks throughout the United States. For the past 33 years he lived in Newtown, Connecticut with his beloved partner, Dorothy Barnes. George Sr. is survived by Dorothy, his sons, George Jr. and wife Georgeanne, Keith and wife Polly, his grandsons, Jared Limbach and wife Christine, and Matthew Limbach. He is also survived by two great-grandsons, Beau and Jamie Limbach, and many other friends and family, including the Barnes family. A funeral for the immediate family will be held on September 18 at 1:15 PM at George Washington Cemetery in Paramus, New Jersey. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Regional Hospice at https://regionalhospicect.org or mailed to Regional Hospice, 30 Milestone Rd., Danbury, CT 06810. Arrangements are in the care of Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
