Obituary for Gerard Joseph Parker

Gerard J. Parker 84, of Newtown, passed away peacefully Sunday November 13th, 2011 at Masonicare at Newtown. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Veronica C. (Mahon) Parker. Gerard was born November 23, 1926 in Freeport, Long Island. He graduated from Commerce High School in Manhattan, and went on to a successful 40 year career with General Reinsurance Corp. as an insurance auditor. It was at work Gerard met, and fell in love with, his wife of 59 years. Mr. Parker was a resident of Bethel from 1972 to 1999 and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and member of the Knights of Columbus, Pavia Council #48. Upon his retirement in 1987 he enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends. Gerard and Veronica moved to Newtown in 1999.
In addition to his devoted wife, Gerard is survived by his five children, JoAnne Powers of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, Kenneth Parker and his wife Laurie, of Waterbury, Jeffery Parker and his wife Nancy, of Bethel, Bruce Parker and his wife Daphne of Aiken, S.C., and Kelly Parker Trim and her husband Darren of New Milford. His pride and joy were his seven grandchildren, Tara Randi and her husband Dan, Kyle, Brian, Sean, Alison Parker, Ethan and Sydney Marie Trim. Gerard was a kind, gentle soul. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, Friday November 18th at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
