Obituary for Harold James Allison

Harold James Allison, 69, formerly of Greenville, ME, passed away on April 19th, 2024. He was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Hugh Allison and Mildred (Livengood) Allison Smith.

Harold leaves behind his loving wife Xiao Xiang Huang of 19 years; daughters Jamie Feli & husband Jason of Boise, Idaho; Emily Slattery & partner Justin Sheppard of Oxford, Conn.; and Whitney Carr & husband Ian of Holly Springs, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Ava, Piper, Josephine & Lauren Feli, Macie Slattery, Cooper Sheppard, and Corinne Carr. He is also survived by his four older sisters, Gladys Stokes, Dorothy Halsey, Christine Allison, Vivian Allison, and younger brother, Stanley Allison. Harold was predeceased by his son, Harlan Allison.

Raised in Fairfield, Harold was a 1973 graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School. As a teen, he was a soccer player, car enthusiast, and champion of rifle competitions. He later attended the University of Maine at Orono and started his family in Greenville, with former wife, Joan (Poeltl) Allison. They lived there for 10 years, while Harold worked as a logger. In 1986, the family moved to Newtown, Connecticut.

After logging, Harold moved on to a rewarding career as a mechanical technician in automating scenery for major broadway productions. He worked for ShowTech in Norwalk, CT for several years, and later moved on to Hudson Scenic of Yonkers, New York; The Met Opera House, New York, NY; and Global Scenic Services in Bridgeport, CT. A shining career moment included working on the winch that released the 2000 New Year’s Eve ball drop and being ‘the man behind the ball’ for many countdowns. His career also brought forth trips to Japan and Hawaii. When he wasn’t working, Harold enjoyed learning about history, skiing the slopes, and playing chess. Harold and Xiao were married in 2005.

Harold will rest beside his son Harlan Allison at the Saint Rose of Lima Cemetery in Sandy Hook, CT. A private burial will be held. Condolences may be sent to Xiao Huang, 21 Farrell Rd, Newtown, CT 06470.
