Obituary for James Patrick "Jim" Barnett

James Patrick “Jim” Barnett, age 55, of Waterbury, CT, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT, after a valiant battle with advanced lung disease and pneumonia. He was born on July 13, 1964 in San Angelo, TX, to his loving parents, Bobby G. Barnett and the late Mary Bernadette (Foye) Barnett. He attended Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, and graduated from Newtown High School in Connecticut.

In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his brother, Anthony “Tony” Barnett, his sister, Christine Barnett, and his nephew, Sean Speliades.

Jim is survived by his devoted father, Bobby G. Barnett and his loving stepmother, Grace M. Barnett, both of Hainesport, NJ, his loving sister, Theresa A. Barnett, of Bethlehem, CT, his dear nephew, Stephen Speliades, of Waterbury, CT, as well as his maternal uncle and aunt, Martin J. and Barbara Foye, of Lewes, DE, his paternal uncle and aunt, James H. and Noreen Barnett, of Amarillo, TX, and his paternal aunt and uncle, Tricia (Barnett) Monfrey and Mark Monfrey, of Dallas, TX. He will also be greatly missed by his many cousins, and his friends, most especially by his faithful friend, Tim Pokladowski, his loving “brother,” Jeffrey Speliades, and his longtime sweetheart, Deborah “Debbie” Portocarrero.

Jim was a skilled construction worker, both in Connecticut and Utah. He loved sports, fishing, and visiting with family and friends. His final weeks and days of life brought him closer to God in his prayer life, in his Catholic faith, and in his reception of the Sacraments.

Due to the Covid19 restrictions, Jim’s burial service at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Sandy Hook, CT will be limited to his close family members. A Memorial Mass will be offered for him at a later date.
