As I'm sure many of you feel the same, I need to say my heart aches for everyone involved. I've cried daily for the families, children and staff of Sandy Hook Elementary School. As a firefighter/paramedic for the past fifteen years, I've seen some tremendous things in life but none such as this. I'll never forget that immediately after learning of the events that morni
ng I was scheduled to read to my daughters kindergarten class. As I read "How The Grinch Stole Christmas", once my favorite book, I couldn't help but think while reading, how much I'm going to hate it from that day forward. As I sat reading to thirty beautiful kids, I fought to hold back my tears. The innocence, love and unconditional joy filled the air as I read to them. They had no knowledge of the days happenings and not a care in the world. It truly made me realize how much we take tomorrow for granted. I've always been a believer in living for today, but this opened my eyes and heart for living for the moment with my kids. Cherish every moment! I've spent the past four days looking into my children eyes wondering what I would do if I were in those shoes. Everyone with children need to love and hold them unconditionally. The residents and family around there might not feel it or realize it, but those children and teachers didn't die in vein. The world will be watching their families and looking up to them in time of tragedy as an example of the importance of love, family, and community. I wish I could afford to donate, hug or help anyone there. But know in my heart you will all live on! you've reinforced my love of family and friends. Everyday I look at my children you will be thought of. Live on little angles, spread your wings and fly free! I hope you watch over all of us, and educate us in times of need! You will never be forgotten!
