Obituary for Joseph "Vincent" McRuiz

It is with sad, but full, hearts that the family of Joseph “Vincent” McRuiz announces his passing on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at the age of 70. Surrounded by his cherished children in his beloved home – and shortly after informing them that “[his] life was complete” – he took his final breaths at the end of a battle with soft-tissue sarcoma which he fought so courageously that it bordered surreptitious.

It is difficult to convey who he was within the confines of few paragraphs, but here is a college try. He was born in Tyler, Texas. He married his high school sweetheart. He dedicated his entire self to giving his wife and kids the best life they could possibly ask for. He was proud of his family. He loved his home. He, along with his John Deere tractor, won the coveted, notional award for best yard in the neighborhood. He felt deeply, worked hard, and was a lifelong student of anything he didn’t already know. He loved nature – birds, whales, rolling pandas. He loved history and could outwit anyone on WWII military weaponry and tactics – in German. He had a quirky and observational sense of humor and loved observing the ludicrousness of life. He laughed with his whole body. He enjoyed free stuff – especially 5K t-shirts and gigantic grippy hospital socks. He described his children as his “treasures” and his grandchildren as “masterpieces.” When he stumbled, he got back up. When he failed, he tried again. He loved.

He is predeceased by his mother, Madeline McRuiz, and his beloved wife, Cynthia (“Cindy” / “Mom”) Wakely McRuiz. He leaves behind three children, as well as their spouses, whom he loved as his own: Tyler (Michelle) McRuiz; Elise (Rui) DeSousa; and Nicole (Tim) Jayko. He will also be fondly remembered by Jude, Riley, Amelia, and Daphne, his dearly loved grandchildren, as well as his doting “dog-daughter,” Brie. He will also be lovingly remembered by his wife’s sisters: Joyce (Don) Carrington; Kay (Larry) Sowinski; and Jonetta Wakely. Vincent also leaves behind his father, Joseph McRuiz, and five siblings – Michael, Marsha, Teresa, Steven, and Michelle – as well as nieces and nephews.

Calling hours for family and friends will be held at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Church in Brookfield.

Let everything happen to you
Beauty and terror
Just keep going
No feeling is final.
