Obituary for Judith Ann "Judy" Hunter

Judith Ann Hunter, of Newtown, CT and Haddonfield, NJ, left us November 28 after an extended illness. A proud alumna of Mount Holyoke College, Judy was a teacher, a volunteer, and a valued friend.
She brought us the sunshine.
Judy leaves her cherished husband of 46 years, Charlie Platt; sisters Jill Hunter Burrill, and Janet Hunter (Billy Budd) and son, James Hunter Budd; her sister-in-law, Nancy Platt (the late Dr. Tan Platt); niece and nephew Elizabeth Platt and James Platt; sister-in-law Alice Selzer (Michael); nieces Katie Selzer and the late Cassie Wickes Firenze (Angelo) and their son, Nico; nephew Matthew Selzer (Erin) and their children, Margot and Evan. Judy had many wonderful friends from sailing, kayaking demonstrating kayak safety, tennis, sailing, climbing, skiing, and lots of Travels with Charlie.
She took special joy in the year-long activities with friends within the Saugatuck Harbor Yacht Club in Westport.
Judy was instrumental in restarting and directing Singing Eagle Lodge, a girls’ camp in NH, loved by many generations. A generous, kind-hearted bright light, she was a hard worker who could focus any group or activity. She was a poster girl for tact, and compassionate, graceful strength. A natural leader, Judy was an extraordinary teacher, touching the lives of hundreds of students, parents, and campers from NJ, MA, and CT.
She delighted in bluebirds. She was a singer, and a prodigious reader.
We share the image of Judy among so many loved ones, enjoying the view from the sunny porch at Grove Beach, CT, with a cold drink in her hand.
There will be a celebration of her life in the spring.
Anyone wishing to commemorate Judy could consider the MasoniCare, 412 Roosevelt Drive, Derby, CT 06418; Singing Eagle Lodge, 821 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT; or a charity of choice.
