Obituary for Kenneth L "Ken" Bigham

Kenneth L "Ken"  Bigham
Kenneth L. Bigham died at The Springs of Watermark, Southbury on Thursday, March 6, 2014. He was the husband of Barbara Mann Bigham. Residents of Newtown for 40 years they moved to Oxford Greens in 2006. Ken was born on December 31, 1935, the son of Frank and Florence Grumman Bigham. He graduated from Bethel High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball all four years. After serving 3 years in the Army, Ken attended Norwalk Technical College and Bridgeport University before joining Ducci Electric Company He spent most of his career supervising electrical work on major construction projects including the Danbury Hospital Tower, Danbury High School and the IBM campus in Southbury. Ken was actively involved in the Newtown community having been elected to the first Legislative Council. He also served on the Charter Revision Commission, the Public Building Committee, and the Democratic Town Committee. He was a former member of the Newtown Country Club, coached Little League, and once played a competitive tennis net game. Ken loved talking about the stock market, the Red Sox, politics, and world events. He enjoyed bridge, golf, reading, growing orchids, and spending time with his family and rarely missed one of his children's and grandchildren's activities. In his retirement, Ken spent winters in Venice Florida and previously summered in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Ken is survived by his wife, 3 children Katherine Bigham Bloxsom (Michael) of Brookfield, Douglas Kenneth Bigham (Judy Go) of Westford, MA, and Steven Charles Bigham (Lisa Pollard) of Southbury, and 6 adored grandchildren, Kristin and Laura Pino of Brookfield, Jamison and Karly Bigham of Westford, MA, and Leah and Erin Bigham of Southbury; 2 sisters Ann Lovell of Brookfield and Bertha Abbotts of Wells, VT; a sister-in -law Dora Bigham of Danbury, 2 brother-in-laws Charles Mann of Venice, FL and Ronald Long of St. Charles, MO. and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Francis Bigham and sister, Isabel Utter. The family will greet friends at the Honan Funeral Home in Newtown on Monday, March 10th from 4-7 p.m.. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 11th at the Newtown Congregational Church, West St. A reception will follow in the Great Room. In lieu of flowers, the Bigham family is asking that friends and family make contributions to the Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut, 39 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury, CT, 06810.
