Obituary for Marie Esposito (Montagnese)

Marie Esposito passed away on May 8th 2023, her 94th birthday. She was born on that same day in 1929 to Luigia (Cirillo) and Giuseppe Montagnese in Fabrizia, Italy. She emigrated to the United States at the age of eight with her mother. She was raised and attended school in New Rochelle, New York where she met the love of her life Thomas Anthony Esposito and was married in 1952. Their son, Thomas Jude Esposito, MD, MPH, was born in 1955. The couple was happily married for 47 years. During that time he rose to the rank of Comptroller at National Bank of Westchester and she worked as an office clerk and homemaker.
During her lifetime, she was active in her community and her church. Some of her activities were: teaching CCD classes; hospital and library volunteer work; weaving palms for Palm Sunday; delivering Meals on Wheels and volunteering at her church's carnivals among others. Her hobbies included: golf; bowling; dancing; cooking; reading and walking daily. Once retired, she also enjoyed traveling to beach locations with her husband and family.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband Tom, beloved sister Joanne Heslin and brother-in-law Kevin Heslin, cousins Tony and Joe (Ada) Cirillo, uncle Frank Cirillo (Rosina) and cousin Annita Fiorito (Jimmy).
She is survived by her son, Thomas Jude (Julie), nieces Kelli Ferguson (Keith), Holly Grant (Rick) and Kevin Bernard Heslin (Kristine) and their children, Sammi, Emma and Molli Ferguson, Lucy Grant, and Katelyn and Colton Heslin. She also predeceases Mary Cirillo (Tony), and Teresina Cirillo (Frank).
A longtime resident of Walnut Tree Village in Sandy Hook, Marie resided at the Linden at Brookfield in Brookfield Connecticut during the last chapter of her life where she received loving care and kindness for which the family will be forever grateful and appreciative.
There will be a short visitation on Thursday May 11th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Rd, Newtown, Connecticut 06470. A funeral mass will follow and interment will be at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, New York. Services will be live streamed and archived at: www.strosechurch.com. (voice of Saint Rose)
