Obituary for Mary Dorothy Barr
Mary “Dorothy” Barr, age 88, of Newtown CT passed away peacefully Tuesday Feb 8, 2022 at home surrounded by family.
She is survived by daughter Dorothy Reseska and husband Chris, along with grandchildren Lauren and Matthew Reseska of Newtown CT; Jacob Kaplan (fiance Susanna) of Norwalk Ct along with precious great-grandson Hunter Kaplan; Jonathan Kaplan (fiance Laura) and Gabriel Kaplan of Stamford CT. She is also survived by her brother Albert E Seidel III and sister-in-law Molly of Edgewood NM; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband John B. Barr Jr; daughter Kathleen M. Kaplan; parents Mary Dorothy (McCarthy) and Albert E. Seidel Jr; and her sister/cousin Florence Small.
She was born and raised surrounded by close family in Brooklyn NY on August 8, 1933 and after marrying the love of her life, moved to Queens NY to start a family. She relocated with her family to Danbury CT in 1972. She then moved to Newtown in 2004 to be closer to her grandchildren.
She worked as a secretary for several area companies, most notably Ethan Allen and Society for Plastics Engineers (SPE). She was a devout Catholic and attended St. Mary Church in Bethel as well as St. Rose Church in Newtown. She loved horses, following races and especially attending the race tracks in Monmouth NJ and Monticello NY. She loved watching birds at her bird feeder, the color blue and having fun at casinos. She was also a voracious reader and could frequently be found with her nose in a good book.
A private funeral mass and burial will be held for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimers Organization. Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street is serving the family.
