Patricia (Pat) Brenner Ives, 91, a longtime resident of Newtown, CT, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2023. Born July 19, 1931 to Moses and Madelyn Brenner of New Haven, CT. Pat was a lifelong learner and a passionate educator who loved her family, faith, and community. She received a Bachelor ’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Connecticut and her Master ’s Degree from Western CT University. She devoted 30 years to teaching third and fourth graders at Hawley Elementary School in Newtown, CT. Pat loved her students and had many memorable stories and moments from her time serving the families of Newtown.
Patricia had a strong faith which sustained her and was an active member of St. Mary’s Church of Bethel, CT. She also loved reading, word puzzles, watching wildlife in her backyard, and Reeses peanut butter cups. Pat enjoyed traveling after retirement, but relished spending time in Newtown. An avid crossword puzzle fan, Patricia would complete the New York Times crossword every week and word jumbles with her sister Rita. She was always happy to talk for hours about difficult clues, Jeopardy questions, and local flora and fauna over a bowl of her beloved Cherry Chocolate Chunk ice cream.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives and families: Alan and Ann Ives of Harpswell, ME; Paul and Susan Ives of Bethlehem, CT; and David and Cathy Ives of Madison, CT. She had six grandchildren: Christopher Ives, Nicole Christensen, Julie Quinlan, Rebecca Ives, Sasha Ives, and Daniel Ives. She also had two greatgrandchildren – Dante David Ives and Violet Annabelle Quinlan , and also survived by her sister Janet B. Franzoni. She was predeceased by her siblings, Joseph Brenner, Helen Peck, and Rita Kunz.
