Obituary for Ralph Henry Loveland

Ralph Henry Loveland, age 93, a lifelong resident of Newtown, died December 1, 2009 in Bethel Health Care. Mr. Loveland was the husband for 49 years of the late Esther (Pohlman) Loveland.
He was born on March 17, 1916 a son of the late Grover H. and Ethel (Bartow) Loveland. Ralph served in World War II as a Navy Gunner in both the Atlantic and Pacific and was awarded two bronze stars and the good conduct medal.
Mr. Loveland retired as a Line Foreman from the United Illuminating Co. of New Haven after 32 years of service. He was a Mason, belonging to Washington Lodge in Monroe and was a member of the Stevenson Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
A farmer at heart, Ralph ran a milk business before the war and throughout his life enjoyed raising livestock and cultivating the earth.
He is survived by three sons, Robert W. Loveland of Wichita, Kansas, Russell G. Loveland of Danbury and Ralph G. Loveland of Newtown; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Keith and by two brothers, Harold and Earle.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend funeral services Saturday December 5, 2009 at 10:00am in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Zoar Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00 pm to 7:00pm.
