Obituary for Rosalie Marie Kallas

Rosalie Marie (Flood) Kallas, of Monroe passed away on Sunday, July, 29th surrounded by her loving family at Danbury Hospital.
Born on November 18th 1937, in Danbury, Rosalie was the daughter of the late Paul Kallas and Genevieve (Pannozza) Kallas, and the sister of the late Michael A. Kallas.
Rosalie graduated from Danbury High School and then graduated from St. ¬¬¬Vincent’s School of Nursing in Bridgeport as a Registered Nurse. She was a dedicated medical nurse, but eagerly put her career aside to lovingly raise her four children in Newtown with her former husband, the late William M. Flood Sr. Nothing brought her greater joy than being a mother. In 1972, she returned to nursing with a dedication to treating those with mental illness and addiction at Fairfield Hills Hospital. Rosalie retired in 2001 to enjoy each and every day of being a grandmother to her seven grandchildren who will forever miss her.
Always a caregiver and helper, Rosalie was a member of the Newtown’s Woman’s Club for almost two decades. She worked diligently on numerous committees to make a difference in other people’s lives such as: The Red Cross Bloodmobile, Rocky Hill Veteran’s Hospital; F.A.I.T.H Food Pantry; The Women’s Center of Greater Danbury and so many more. She was also a founding member of the Newtown United Local Non-Profit Organization for Cancer Patients and Families.
Rosalie was a very special and caring woman who was loved by so many people. She loved to laugh, have fun, and play cards and scrabble with her friends when she was not faithfully attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events. She had an amazing spirit, optimistic outlook and beautiful smile that could light up any room. She will forever be in our hearts.
Rosalie is survived by her four children and their spouses: William Flood Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Southbury, Karen (Flood) Culkins and her husband Michael of Bolton, MA, Brian Flood and his wife Magali of Southbury and Kimberly (Flood) Lydon and her husband Robert of Sandy Hook. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Bobby and Jack Lydon, Christopher Culkins, Brian and Kaitlyn Flood, and Lexie and Tyler Flood. She will also be missed by her devoted sister-in-law, Berni Kallas of Danbury, her nieces and nephews, and her wonderful friends whom she cherished so very much.
Friends and family may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown on Sunday, August 5th between the hours of 4 PM and 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 6948 Main Street, Trumbull on Monday, August 6th at 12:30 PM.
