Obituary for Salvatore Joseph "Sal" Scosta

Salvatore J. Scosta, 90, of Sandy Hook entered the into the arms of the Lord, on Saturday, November 10th, 2018, with his loving family by his side. Born April 9th, 1928, in Chelsea, MA, he was the son of the late Joseph and "Ida" (Recupero) Scosta of Stratford.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Irene, of 54 years, his children; David Scosta and wife, Vicky, of Brookfield, Michael Scosta and wife, Sarah, of Southbury, and daughter, Julie Scosta of Greenwich, his grandchildren; Christopher Scosta and wife, Kate, Jason Scosta and fiancé, Stacy, and Anthony and Natalie Scosta.

A resident of Sandy Hook, for 54 years, he was employed by Sikorsky Aircraft for over 40 years, working in the Development Manufacturing Center. He worked on the UH-60 Black Hawk and spent time in CA with NASA on the RSRA/X-wing.

He was the Umpire in Chief for Newtown Little League for many years, and was presented with an honorary award "in recognition of the honorable and professional manner in which he performed his duties." He was affectionately known by the LL players as "Sal" and he made them feel like they played in the big leagues!

A diehard Red Sox and Giants fan, sports were his passion. He enjoyed attending the numerous sports of his grandchildren. He was active in the Sikorsky retirement club and served as Vice President. He enjoyed building model ships. He also created numerous ink drawings, which he gave as gifts.

He will be sadly missed by his family and the many lives he touched.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday November 16, 2018 at 12:30pm in St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. Interment will follow in Newtown Village Cemetery. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown Thursday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
