After coming to the United States in 1967, she received advanced degrees in English literature and business. Sheela spent the bulk of her professional career at Chase, where she worked within trust administration and estate planning. She excelled at Chase, receiving the Chairman’s Award for Excellence, and serving as Vice President of Trust Administration until her retirement in 2002.
Sheela had a lifelong interest in the arts, and was a practitioner of Bharatnatyam, a form of Indian classical dance. She also was a keen gardener and voracious reader. In the last ten years, some of Sheela and Amar’s favorite trips were annual vacations with their grandson Josh to places such as Florida, the Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone.
