Obituary for Thomas Harold "Tom" Barnhart

Thomas Harold Barnhart passed away on October 15, 2018 at Danbury Regional Hospice, in Danbury, CT. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on October 25, 1955, to Rosemary and Harold Barnhart, and was the youngest of two children. He attended Norwalk Technical School and the University of New Haven, earning his bachelor's degree while working full time. Tom's career in I.T. began at AVCO, and led him to G.E., followed by Chesebrough-Pond's. While at Chesebrough, he met his wife, JoAnne, and worked his way from analyst to director over the course of twenty-two years. He then worked at the Nielsen Company until his retirement in 2017. Throughout his career, Tom was a respected and valued resource on every project and offered leadership and guidance to his colleagues. In his personal life, Tom was an incredibly devoted and loyal husband, father, brother, and son and a true family man to his core. A measured and thoughtful conversationalist, Tom was dignified, logical, and disciplined in all aspects of his life. He loved animals, history, and most of all, fast cars.

Tom is survived by his wife, JoAnne, of Newtown, CT, his daughter, Nicole, of New York, NY, his sister, Sharon, of Torrington, CT, as well as nieces, nephews, and valued friends. Relatives and friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Connecticut on Friday, October 19, from 2-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Connecticut Humane Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
