Obituary for William M. "Bill" Newman

William Newman was called home June 11, 2021. He was born to Ruth (Cowie) Newman in Bridgeport Oct 4, 1928. He grew up in Stratford, graduating from Stratford H.S. He went through R.O.T.C. He was accepted to Yale University and graduated with honors. He joined the Navy right after graduating. He was in the Korean theater aboard the U.S.S. Sicily. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Inderdohnen. After traveling with the service, they moved to Fairfield. They had four children. Bill was active with the P.T.A., Toastmasters, and various professional groups. He was a lector at St Pious X church. He worked as a purchasing agent, manager and senior buyer for various companies including Textron and Jenkins Bros. He got his Master’s degree from University of Connecticut. He was active in his children's lives. He participated in Boy Scouts, Indian Guides and T-ball. He moved to Newtown after his wife passed. He attended St. Rose of Lima Church and joined the choir.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Liz; his son, Bill; his mother, Ruth; his brothers, John and Ray; his sister-in-law, Marge; his brother-in-law, Bob; his daughter-in-law, Doreen; and his niece, Caroline.
He is survived by daughters, Liz (Garry) Hollopter and Joan (Steve) Oldham; son, Chris Newman; brother, Peter Newman; sister-in-laws, Joan Newman, Kay Inderdohnen, and Carole Newman. Also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown Thursday June 17th at 10:30am. Interment with Military Honors will be Friday June 18th at 10:30am at St. Thomas Cemetery in Fairfield. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home 58 Main Street, Newtown, Wednesday June 16th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
