- Dan took over as sole proprietor of Honan Funeral Home in 2007 when his father retired

Community Involvement
- Volunteer Fireman for 17 years
- Past Chairman and member of the Newtown Board of Fire Commissioners
- Currently a member of the Newtown Rotary Club since 1988
- Served as President of the Newtown Rotary Club from 1993 to 1994
- On the board of directors for the Housatonic Area Regional Transit (HART). HART is the provider of public transportation for Danbury, Newtown, and other surrounding communities in Connecticut.
- Member of the Newtown Legislative Council, first elected in 2011- currently serving 5th two year term.

- Married to Colleen and has two children – Eileen and Patrick
- Parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church
- Longtime Usher and Assistant Sexton of St. Rose Cemetery
- Recipient of the St. Augustine Medal for his service at St. Rose of Lima Parish in 2007
