Margaret Alice Kovacs, age 75, a resident of Newtown for over 40 years, passed away on September 10, 2016 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on April 23, 1941 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She was the wife of her loving husband, Richard Kovacs for over 59 years. She met her husband in her neighborhood in grade school. They were married in June of 1957 and moved to Topeka, Kansas where their two children were born- Thomas Roy Kovacs and his wife Maureen of Washington, CT and Wanda Lynn McGarry of Danbury, CT. She was predeceased by a daughter Katherine Alice. Margaret’s Granddaughters are Samantha McGarry and Tierney Kovacs. Margaret’s parents were the late Abraham and Alice Day Breese.
Margaret was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Margaret helped found the family business; Kovacs Construction Corporation of Danbury and Oxford, Ct, which is still growing after 44 years. She was the Office Manager as well as head of Finance. Margaret loved to travel, meet people and see the world. She lived in Fussa, Japan for a few years and also lived and owned homes in Topeka, Kansas, Orlando, Florida, New Brunswick and also Rockaway, New Jersey and Ocean View, Delaware, and traveled throughout the U.S, including South Yarmouth in Cape Cod, Alaska and Hawaii. She also owned commercial properties in Danbury, Ct. Margaret traveled to Rome, Budapest, Ljubljana, Slovenia and Prague, Sydney and Perth, Australia and also Singapore. She was in San Francisco for the October 1989 earthquake. For 30 years, she made an annual visit to her favorite winter destination, the island of St Maarten. Margaret also volunteered for many agencies including her church Newtown United Methodist Church. Besides her husband, Margaret is survived by her brothers, Joseph Breese (Fran) of New Jersey, Abraham Breese (Marge) of Florida, Edward Breese (Barbara) of New Jersey, Henry Breese of Danbury, Ct, Sister, Loretta Rivera of Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Brothers-in-law, King Kovacs and wife, Claire and Stephen Kovacs of Hamilton, New Jersey. Margaret’s best friend Rose Pope of Westminster, Co: that she met in Topeka and her sister-in-law Diane Kovacs of Topeka, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks from Margaret’s family to her caregivers Kholeka Bunge and Amanda August. The family would also like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Danbury Hospital, Masonicare- Newtown and Dr. Allen Davis for the excellent care given to Margaret over the last 4 years.
The family will receive friends at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, CT on Thursday September 15, 2016 from 5 to 8 PM. Memorial Services will be held at the Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Rd. Sandy Hook, CT on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11:00 am.
