Eleanore Natalie Farrell, 100, a Newtown resident for 53 years, passed away peacefully at her home on January 6, 2017 with her family present. Eleanore was the wife of the late Leo P. Farrell, Jr. of Newtown. She was the daughter to the late Gustav and Natalie Light of Bridgeport. She is survived by eleven of her twelve children; Norene Casey, Plymouth, MA, L. Peter Farrell III, Spring Hill, FL, Dennis J. Farrell, Hobe Sound, FL & Plymouth, MA, Dr. William G. Farrell, Cheshire, CT, Eleanore N. Blewett, Huntington, CT, Jeanne Farrell, Norton, MA, Jeffery Farrell, Sherburne Falls, MA, Patrice Hough, Newtown, Sharon Farrell, Newtown, Bryan G. Farrell, Naugatuck, CT, and Michael P. Farrell, Hopkinton, MA. Daughter Donna Lynn Farrell pre-deceased her. She is also survived by three sisters, Myrtle Light and Evelyn Light of Bridgeport, CT and Shirley Langhammer, Murfreesboro, TN. In addition, Eleanore is survived by 27 loving grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren and numerous daughter & son-in-laws. In all she was the Matriarch of over 100 family members.

Eleanore lead a long and active life involved in many civic areas; P.T.A., Boy Scouts, Book Drives and numerous charity drives. She was the quintessential Mother, Grandmother (Gram), and Great Grandmother (GiGi) to her large family, involved in countless births, baptisms, communions, and graduations through the decades.

Born in Bridgeport, and graduated from Central High School, she lived in Stratford for 20 years and Newtown for the past 53 years. She loved simple things in life, gardening, bird watching, reading, puzzle making and needlepoint. She loved sports especially tennis and she was an avid fan of the UCONN Woman’s Basketball team.

Eleanore was a loving, caring, kind, and generous person who loved her family passionately and who cared for her neighbor and fellow man. She lived a long and full life…dying five days before her 101st birthday. She truly led a ‘life well lived.’ Her life was such a blessing to her family and so many others she touched.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 11 am at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mt. Pleasant Road, Newtown, CT. Calling hours will be on Monday, January 9 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
