Margaret Norris Kovachik, age 88, of Newtown, CT passed away peacefully on February 10, 2017 with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert George Kovachik, and her son, Albert George Kovachik, Jr. She is survived by five children, Kate Sulik and husband Dave of Shelton, Andy Kovachik and wife Bev of Monroe, Carolyn Mandarano and husband Mike of Newtown, Ilona Palomba and husband Tony of Monroe, and Matt Kovachik and wife Liz of Mendham, N.J., as well as twelve grandchildren who she loved very much: Greg and Jim Sulik; Andrew, Kelsey, and Cameron Kovachik; Garrett and Connor Mandarano; Emma, Lily, and Sam Palomba; and Maggie and Tommy Kovachik.
Margaret was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on October 11, 1928, to Andrew and Bess Norris, the youngest of four children (sister to Middleton, Jean, and Betty Ann). She graduated from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, in 1950, and moved to New Haven, Connecticut, where she met Albert. They were married in October 1952. She was a resident of Fairfield, Connecticut, since 1956 before moving to Maplewood at Newtown in Newtown, in 2013.
Margaret lived a long, full life and will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank the staff at Maplewood for the friendship and devotion shown to Margaret these past few years, and to both Maplewood and Masonicare Hospice for their care and support during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Margaret’s name to Operation Hope or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Calling hours will be at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mt. Pleasant Road, Newtown, Connecticut, on Tuesday, Feb. 14 from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
