Obituary for Bernard Simms

Our dear father, Bernard Simms of Newtown son of Joseph and Kathleen (Ellison) Simms died peacefully August 3rd 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Bernard shared his life with his loving wife Katherine for fifty-nine years and with his five children, twelve grand-children and four great-grandchildren.
He taught by example, he raised his family with love and hard work and he spread laughter wherever he went. Bernard has always been quick to forgive and ready to enjoy the company of others. He was a devoted husband a strong father and a great friend to many people around the world that he travelled. Bernard is a gentle soul that walked with all of us through life bringing love and laughter. We honor him with how we live our lives reflecting his gentleness, his laughter and his devotion to family. May God hold him close in loving arms. Bernard was born in Stockport, England February 16th 1933 where the Simms family lived for many generations. Bernard Simms and his wife Katherine knew each other since they were children and married in 1957. Bernard and Katherine emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1958 then to Newtown, Connecticut in 1969 where they put down roots and raised their family. Bernard is predeceased by his loving wife Katherine and his parents. Bernard is survived by his five children and their spouses; Kerry and Warren Hall, Mark and Diane Simms, Patrick and Jennifer Simms, Katie, Matthew, and his wonderful grandchildren and spouses; Christopher and Devon Hall, Alexander, Valerie, Cassandra and Gareth Jones, Stephanie, Savannah and Alex Summers, Brittany and Matthew Roberts, Zachary, Anastasia, Paige, Rosie, Thomas, and his four wonderful grandchildren. Bernard is survived by his brother Terrence Simms and his Sister-in-law Margaret as well as his niece Nicola and her lovely children Callum and Lauren and his nephew Michael and his wife Melissa and children Shelby, Bethan and Tayla and all his Friends from across the years of his long wonderful fun life. Thank you friends for your friendship, your kindness your laughter and your love.Thank you God for sharing Bernard Simms with us. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Newtown Wednesday August 9th at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Newtown Village Cemetery.
