Obituary for Curtis Wilbur McKay Sr.

Curtis W. McKay, Sr. age 87 of Newtown died Wednesday July 27, 2011 in Masonicare at Newtown following a lengthy illness. He was born in Danbury on March 22, 1924 a son of the late Wilbur M. and Alice (Hunt) McKay. Curtis was raised in Brookfield and graduated from Danbury High School.
Curtis served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 as a Motor Machinist Mate and was stationed on the U.S.S. Alcyone serving in the European, African and Pacific Theatres. He participated in 9 major landings and earned seven Bronze Stars. Mr. McKay was a Power Engineer and retired from both Bridgeport Brass and Boehringer Ingelheim. Curtis was a resident of Newtown since 1953 and was a Communicant of St. Rose of Lima Parish where he was a member of the choir for 50 years. He was an accomplished photographer and received national recognition for his work.
Curtis will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
Mr. McKay is survived by his son Curtis W. McKay, Jr. of Newtown; 2 sisters Shirley Pierce of Woodbury and Francine Race of Binghamton, NY; his son-in-law, Daniel Randolph of New Milford; 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren with a great grandchild on the way; several nieces and nephews and all of his friends from the St. Rose Choir whom he considered family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Clarice (Soucy) McKay in September 2010 and by his beloved daughter Karen McKay Randolph on July 4, 2011.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church Saturday July 30, 2011 at 10:00am. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
