Obituary for Dorothy Thomas (Krnyaich)

Dorothy Thomas (Krnyaich)
Dorothy Krnyaich Thomas, wife of Wallace C. Thomas of Newtown died Sunday, October 30, 2011 in Danbury Hospital. Born on July 22, 1922 in Akron, Ohio, Dorothy was the oldest child of Austin and Anna Uzelac Krnyaich. A coal miner's daughter, Dorothy was raised in Ohio, and after graduating from Bellaire High School in Bellaire, Ohio, moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where she met Wallace in 1942. They soon became inseparable partners, and married in 1945. After World War II, they made their home in Bridgeport, living there for 35 years before moving to Newtown in 1981. She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Paradise Park, Punta Gorda, Florida, was active for many years in Golden Hill United Methodist Church, and shared her love for the outdoors and travel with her children through family camping trips, and scouting, where she was a den mother with Cub Scout Pack 111. The family went on camping trips across the country, and her and Wallace continued their traveling ways after their children had grown. Whether is was a trip to Machu Picchu, towing their Airstream trailer to Alaska, or spending winters with their Airstream friends in Florida, her love for life, and the great outdoors was always evident.
Besides Wallace, she is survived by her children, Terrence and Carolyn Thomas of Southbury, Judith Banks of Ansonia, Timothy and Carolyn Thomas of Southbury, Wallace Jr. and Barbara Thomas of Monroe, eight grandchildren in Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts, eight great grandchildren, her brother Robert Krnyaich, of Shadyside, Ohio, sister Nancy Joseph of Hebron, Ohio, and numerous nephews and nieces in Connecticut, Ohio, Florida, Georgia, California, and Michigan.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Nicholas Kernich, sister Helen Markovich, and son in law Dennis Banks.
