Obituary for Duane C. "Skip" Dickerson

Duane C. "Skip"  Dickerson
Duane (Skip) C. Dickerson, of Newtown died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport. Skip was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor (Keane) Dickerson and three children, David Dickerson (Anita Holtz) and Wendy Fuller (Arthur Fuller) of Newtown, and Pamela Gunneson (Paul Gunneson) of Cheshire, Connecticut. Seven grandchildren, Kaitlin, Courtney, Mackenzie and Casey Fuller of Newtown and Kelly, Brittney and Connor Gunneson of Cheshire, also survive him. Skip also has one great grandchild, Maverock C. Fuller of Newtown, Connecticut. In addition to grandchildren, Skip is survived by Chick and Mae Dickerson and Jessie and Alfred Ceccarelli of Newtown and Robert and Yolanda Dickerson of Florida. He also has several nieces; Rhanna Peck, Lisa Fasino, Tammy Olena, Jessica Dale and Patricia Keane. Surviving nephews are: Lee Dickerson, Link Dickerson, Joseph Keane III, Michael Keane, Jack Keane, Patrick Keane and the late R. Scott Dale. Florence N. Fensky, of Fairfield is his only surviving aunt. He is also survived by several cousins, including Clifford (Ester) Nichols II, Atty. Clifford Nichols, Jennifer Nichols and his brother in law Joseph Keane II. He was born in Bridgeport on April 1934, to Jeanette N. Dickerson and Chileon Dickerson of Fairfield. Skip graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1953. He was employed at Sport Hill Service Station of Fairfield for thirty three years and Key Lincoln Mercury of Bridgeport for an additional eleven years as shop foreman. Skip is a United States Army Military Veteran, serving in Alaska from 1957 to 1959. He was a resident of Newtown since 1956. Skip was active in the Boys Scouts and Little League Baseball, coaching for many years in Newtown. He was also an avid classic car enthusiast. He enjoyed restoring classic cars and showing them at local car shows and cruise nights with his son David. One of Skip’s favorite past times was spending time with his grandchildren and attending their many activities. Skip was a babysitter, coach and best friend to all of his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. The family is offering many thanks for the kind care that Skip received at St. Vincent’s Medical Center and special thanks and gratitude to Dr. Milton Cooper for his friendship and compassionate care for 54 years. Friends and family may call the Honan Funeral Home of 58 Main Street Newtown, Connecticut on Friday May 10, 2013 between the hours of 4 and 7p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 11, 2013 at Honan Funeral Home followed by interment in Resurrection Cemetery, South Main Street, Newtown.
