Obituary for Edward Ian "Ed" Rees

Edward Ian "Ed"  Rees
Edward I. Rees, 84, of Sandy Hook passed away at home Thursday February 26 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Barton, England on August 4, 1930 a son of the late William Cecil Daniels and the late Edna (Clegg) Rees. Edward leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years Glenna (Pinney) Rees; his son Mark E. Rees and daughter- in-law Paula J. Rees of Naugatuck and 3 Grandchildren, Chris and his wife Brandi of Wolcott; Mark and his wife Kelly, and Matthew all of Naugatuck . He is also survived by 4 Great Grandchildren, Roger, Sarah, Kaleb and Jake and his loving little dog Maggie. He was predeceased by a son, Kevin.

Ed served 2 years in the British Army in Africa with the rank of Corporal. He also served 2 years in the US Merchant Marines and 2 years in the US Army in Korea with the rank of Corporal.

Edward worked as a field service engineer installing emergency power generator systems, in most US military bases as well as all over the world. One of his greater passions was scouting. Edward was an assistant scoutmaster for three years and then took over as head scoutmaster of troop 370 in about the fall of 1973 where he remained for 10 years. Ed also served for a number of years on the Newtown Commission for the Aging. He also was a driver for Meals on Wheels donated his time to many other charitable organizations.

His tireless work for his family and the love of Christ has proven that through all the things he did in his life, my father taught me, even in death, just what a humbling powerful great man that you were, Edward Ian Rees Rest in peace.

Friends may call at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mount Pleasant Road, Newtown Thursday March 12, 2015 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. A funeral service will be conducted at 5:00pm with a dinner reception to follow. Interment in Bethlehem Cemetery, Delmar, New York will take place in the spring. Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown is in charge of arrangements.
