Obituary for Frederick David "Dave" Crouch

Frederick David "Dave" Crouch
Frederick “Dave” Crouch, 98 years old went to be with his Lord on January 29, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Southbury.
Dave was born in Redding on February 18, 1912 to Frederick and Gertrude (Hanks) Crouch. As a young boy his family moved to Newtown where Dave lived most of his life. Dave had many fond memories of his life in Newtown. In the late 1920’s Dave along with his buddies helped to built Edmond Town Hall by delivering bricks to the bricklayers. Mary Hawley, Newtown’s benefactress spoke one day to the boys and said “you will have a new gym to play basketball in”. Dave was a member of the team that played the first basketball game in Edmond Town Hall.
Dave fought in World War II with General Patton’s Third Army 258th Combat Engineers. Shortly after the war ended in 1945, Dave was stationed in Bavaria, Germany where he met his wife Anna (Staudhammer) Crouch who survives him.
Mr. Crouch was a longtime self employed Masonry Contractor. He also worked for many years for Robert Fulton Company in Danbury. Dave was a founding member and Deacon of the former Bible Baptist Church in Newtown. He was currently a member of the Central Baptist Church in Southington. Dave had a passion for witnessing Jesus Christ, fishing and hunting. During his younger years in Newtown he served as a constable and volunteer fireman.
In addition to his beloved wife, Dave is survived by his five children and their families: son Frederick Crouch and his wife Mary and grandchildren Emily and Eli and great grandson Sebastian Roscoe of Northfield; son Arthur Crouch and his wife Norma, grandchildren Melanie and David of New Milford; daughter Susan O’Connor and her husband Dan, grandchildren Alison and Evan of Southington; daughter Pamela Palmer and her husband Tim, granddaughter Lindsey Palmer all of Roxbury, granddaughter Leanna Moran and her husband Terry and great-grandchildren, Jesse and Brett of Bedford, MA; daughter Dina Walsh and her husband Jim and grandchildren James and Nickolas of Newtown.
