Obituary for John William "Jack" Honan

John W. “Jack “ Honan, age 57 of Main Street, Newtown died unexpectedly Tuesday July 28, 2009 at his home after a brief illness.
He was born in Danbury on November 11, 1951, a son of Jeanne (Craffey) Honan of Newtown and the late William A. Honan, Jr. Jack was a lifelong resident of Newtown, attended Newtown Schools and was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 1971. For 34 years Jack was employed as a Parks Maintainer for the Newtown Parks and Recreation Department until his retirement this past winter. A celebration of his service to the town was held this past May at which time “Jack’s Grove “ in Dickinson Memorial Park was dedicated. He was a member of the Shriner’s Car Club and was a collector of gadgets, tools and children’s toys which he lovingly distributed to his many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, Jack is survived by his brother Daniel Honan and his wife Colleen of Newtown; his six sisters, Joan Bohlin of Dennis, MA, Maureen Honan of Torrington, Eleanor Callanan and her husband John of Burdett, NY, Patricia Carey and her husband Thomas of Westport, Rita Crana and her husband Paul of Danbury and Bridget Loughney and her husband Michael of Hong Kong. Jack is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Christopher Bohlin and his wife Kristin, Katie Waters and her husband Jim, Shannon Schamel and her husband Matt, Neil Callanan, Meaghan Carey, Michael Carey, Brian Carey, Eileen Honan, Patrick Honan, Molly Loughney , Daniel Loughney and 2 great nephews, Aidan Waters and Macallan Bohlin and a great niece, Lily Bohlin. Jack was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Albert J. Bohlin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown on Saturday August 1, 2009 at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown Friday July 31, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00pm.
