John R. Verbanic, age 69, beloved husband of M. Amanda (Comstock) Verbanic of Newtown died Friday June 5, 2009 at his home.
He was born in East Norwalk, CT on September 21, 1939 a son of the late John and Charlotte (Mandel) Verbanic. John was employed for 30 years by the Newtown Board of Education retiring as Head Custodian of Newtown High School in 2005. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a longtime member of the Newtown Fish and Game Club. John loved gardening and loved people. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. John’s family wishes to thank all who helped during his illness.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Verbanic is survived by his children, Charlotte Seaver and her husband Donald of Williamstown, VT, Sharon Verbanic-Smith and her husband Mike of Bonita Springs, FL, Amanda Verbanic and Bill Taylor of Sandwich, NH and John Verbanic of Sandy Hook; a sister, Mary Keefe of Pelzar, SC; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, a godson and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister, Barbara E. Thompson.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday June 9, 2009 at 11:00am in the Honan Funeral Home 58 Main St. Newtown. Private Cremation will follow. Friends may call Monday (today) from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
